VIDEO: Duterte wants standard equipment for AFP

President Rodrigo Digong Duterte on his visits to Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center (AFPMC) on Tuesday, said he would not follow the rules of the Commission on Audit (COA) in acquiring lowest price equipment for the AFP.



Current COA rule requires the government to buy equipment from the lowest bidder. The President said, this would lead to procuring substandard gears.

During his speech Duterte told soldiers, "Yang lowest bid kasi kung may bilhin ka ito lowest bid bibigay sayo barat. Kaya lahat ng equipments ninyo sabi ko, pinaalam ko na sa COA hindi ako susunod dyan."

He also said that the lowest bidder policy is the source of corruption and hinted that the winners of public biddings usually acquire equipment made in China.

''Wag muna ngayon kasi may alitan daw," Duterte said. The president referring about the disputed Island.

Duterte made example the branded patrol cars that police officers in Davao City use, that the government of Davao bought, which he said would last for three to five years.

"I've been mayor for 23 years 'wag na tayo magbolahan. It will be strictly in accordance with the law and I want it fast," the president said.

The president stressed that those equipment usually purchase from the cheapest bidder are substandard one.
