The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) personnel plans to welcome the newly sworn President Rodrigo "Digong" Duterte for a mass resignation this July, after Duterte had declared that he wants to eradicate BIR because it is one of the most corrupt government agencies in the country.
Duterte in one of his midnight meetings in Davao City before already said his plan to abolish the “most corrupt agencies” in government which he have said are the Bureau of Customs, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the BIR.
The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Kim Henares said “I am hurting for my subordinates because I worked with them for six years and now their hard work is not being recognized".
“He is the President, he can do whatever he wants, that’s up to him,” Henares added.
The planned mass resignation of BIR officials and personnel will start on July 1, 2016 and officials of BIR also said that they were displeased by President Duterte’s statement that BIR as being described as one of the most corrupt agencies in government.
She also said that Duterte’s accusations against BIR were “below the belt” without having proofs to support his allegations.
Deputy commissioner Lilia Guillermo as one of the three deputies of BIR Commissioner Kim Henares also admitted she was hurt by Duterte's statements.
Guillermo who is been working at the BIR for more than three decades said that “If asked for a courtesy resignation, I will comply,” in a report told by The Daily Tribune.
