During the held dinner in Malacañang for the Alumni of San Beda College of Law on Sunday, President Rodrigo Duterte once again reiterated his plan to prohibit the demolition of informal settlers who do not have the option of where to relocate.
“During my time there will be no demolition pag walang relocation, ‘di ako papayag ” (During my time there will be no demolition if there is no relocation. I will not allow it).
Duterte only shows his sympathy to the poor Filipinos whom he has also promised to suppress poverty in the country.
“Kasi kung walang mapuntahan, sirain mo ang bahay… ano parang aso? Eh saan pupunta yung mga tao?” he said.
(If they have no place to go, you will destroy their houses…will we treat them like dogs? Where will the people go?)
The president said the government will look for new relocation areas for the poor settlers. He said they will also need to build new industries.
Duterte said he already instructed the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Caesar Dulay to strictly implement policies in the collection of taxes in-order he could fund his anti-poverty programs.
He particularly indicated the implementation of laws on tax-free importation of merchandise and Duterte guaranteed that numerous rich businessmen have escaped paying sufficient taxes in the government.
