Binay posts bail for his temporary freedom

Former Vice President Jejomar Binay posted a bail on Friday, June 15 before a warrant was issued for his arrest, regarding the issue he was accused for graft and malversation for the misconduct in the P2.28 Billion construction of Makati City Hall Building II.

Together with his son former Makati Mayor Erwin "Junjun" Binay they appeared before the Sandigan bayan's Third Division at 2 in the afternoon to finish the documents with his lawyers and co-respondents over the graft issue.

Binay and his co-respondents was charged for P40,000 for each count of graft, P30,000 for malversation and P24,000 for each count of falsification of public documents by the Office of the Ombudsman, the one who set the bail.

In total, Binay paid for P376,000 who was accused on four counts of violations of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, one count of malversation and nine counts of falsification.

The misconduct construction of the P2.28-billion parking building started in 2007 when the older Binay was still mayor of Makati and was finished in 2013 then Junjun took over as Mayor. The younger Binay was dismissed from his post because of the charges against him.

Former Vice President Binay was accused with the involvement on the initial phases of the said project and Junjun for later stages.

"Binay was eager to go to court to prove the grave abuses of the Ombudsman and have these frivolous cases dismissed.” In a statement said by Binay’s legal counsel Daniel Subido.

“Even the prosecutors of the Ombudsman sought clarification from the latter regarding the previous cases filed against the Makati officials. This shows the sloppiness of the work done by the Ombudsman in her attempt to maliciously indict the Binays by way of trial by publicity,” Subido said.

He also added that the Commission of Audit (COA) has not issued any audit observation memo nearly 10 years now.
