Chairperson of the ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Gina Lopez was asked to lead the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) during her courtesy call at the Presidential Guest House in Department of Public Works & Highways (DPWH) Panacan, Davao City, Monday, June 20.
In a video released by state-run RTVM, Lopez said “I am honored at the trust given… I will seriously, seriously consider it,”
Lopez said it was an "attractive" one but still undecided for the offer.
In a statement she told ABS-CBN News that she wants to have a retreat first before she decides.
In an interview at Davao City’s airport, “I just wanted to give him some ideas, then he offered the position. Nagulat na nga ako eh. Sabi ko, 'Sir alam mo magiging controversial ako',” she told ABS-CBN News.
As Duterte seeks to end the mining problem of the country, Lopez was also known for her anti-mining advocacy.
