Leni Robredo has expressed her strong opposition to allow the body of the late President Marcos to be buried in the Libingan ng mga Bayani and expressed a strong defiance to President Duterte’s decision to allow a hero’s burial for the former President this September.
She states “How can we allow him to be buried as a hero when he has plundered our country and was responsible for the death and disappearance of many Filipinos?
“And those who have greatly committed crimes and moral turpitude to the Filipino people should not be buried in the hero’s cemetery”.
“It’s our responsibility to teach our children the heroism and sacrifice of our forefathers and Mr. Marcos is no hero”.
“This decision will not bring unity to our country; it will only deepen the unhealed wounds of the survivors and family members of victims of the terrible years under the Marcos presidency”.
“Furthermore, his heirs continue to deny that these sins against our people happened. They continue to have no remorse and still prevent the return of the wealth they stole”. She said.
Duterte’s reason for the hero’s burial was that the former president was a soldier.
“He is qualified to be buried there. Kung ayaw ng ibang Pilipino, Fine.” “They can use the street if they want to demonstrate.” He said.
