SURVEY: Do you Agree an Oplan Rody Program for the Implementation a Nationwide Curfew for Minors?

Quezon City - Samahan ng Progresibong Kabataan (SPARK), set up in 2015, protested the implementation of various ordinances in Metro Manila dubbed as “Oplan RODY," or “Rid the Streets of Drunkards and Youths." The Youth students accumulated in the front of Quezon City hall on Friday night, July 1, to oppose the curfew ordinances that limit minors to go outside of their homes after a certain time at night time.

The acronym became in connection with a nickname of newly-elected President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, whose election main campaign boasted a platform control on peace and order.

Joanne Lim, spokesperson for SPARK, said in an interview, that even as these ordinances claim to guard minors from being sufferers of crime, these individuals are alternatively presumed criminals.

“When they’re outside during curfew hours, they have to prove that they’re working students, (or) that they came from some place that is very valid. So in that sense, what happens is that you have to prove that you’re innocent,” Lim said

SPARK proposes that instead of making Oplan RODY a national law, implementing regulations need to rather be community-based totally.
