After the inauguration of President Rodrigo "Digong" Duterte on Thurdays, June 30, hundreds of presumed drug users and pushers from the cities of Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue went to different police precincts just to surrender.
On Thursday afternoon, there are 75 persons were put on record in Lapu-Lapu police precinct and surrendered because of illegal drug activities.
Senior Supt. Arnel Libed held a program at Lapu-Lapu City Tourism Building and invited some former drug addicts to share their testimony. Libed credits the mass surrender to their “Operation Tokhang” or “Toktok, Hangyo” (knock and ask to quit) program.
The regular speaker at the House of Hope Drug Rehabilitation Center, Rev. Dr. Robert Pepito of the Fountain of Life Ministry, strongly encorage the suspects to change for the better.
Lapu-Lapu City mayor Paz Radaza said she hopes that those who surrendered will now support their campaign against illegal drugs and said that they will hold livelihood programs to help them.
In Mandaue City there were nine persons reported that surrendered in various police precincts and Senior Supt. Jonathan Cabal, Mandaue City police chief, said they will be gathered at the Mandaue City Sports Complex for profiling.
The suspects main reason to surrender was being scared by the operation in killing them because of illegal drugs involvement, as what the current Duterte administration's mission; to suppress criminality in the country within 3 to 6 months.
