Supreme court orders Leni to answer Bong-bong's electoral protest

The Supreme Court (SC) which acts as Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) summoned Vice President Leni Robredo to reply to the electoral protest made and filed by former Senator Ferdinand "Bong-bong" Marcos Jr.



The PET asked the new vice president to file her answer to Marcos's electoral protest within 10 days of receipt of summons.

The high court additionally issued a prudent insurance request for the Commission on Elections to safeguard the uprightness of all decision materials taking effect right now.

Defeated vice presidential candidate Marcos filed an electoral protest before the PET to challenge the election of Robredo on June 29.

Marcos also first requested that the tribunal should put aside the decree of Robredo and announce him as the appropriately chosen Vice President of the Philippines.

The National Board of Canvassers showed that Robredo really won the vice presidential election, having 14,418,817 votes while Marcos placed second with 14,155,344 votes in the final official tally.

Marcos camp wants to invalidate the election results especially in places of Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao and Basilan where alleged discrepancies were noted and also wants a recount in 22 provinces and 5 cities according to report.

The electoral protest was filed a day before Vice President-elect Leni Robredo takes her oath.
