As promised since the campaign period, President Rodrigo "Digong" Duterte will sign the executive order (EO) on Freedom of Information (FOI) bill before he delivers his State of the Nation Address (SONA) this coming Monday, July 25.
Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said on a statement the assurance of FOI before SONA on Friday amid its delay.
The FOI, which aims to make public documents more available to the public, was already on the table of the Chief Executive or President and it's ready to be signed.
Andanar also said that the President was “very serious” on signing the FOI, saying it would give and empower the Filipinos about their right to information.
Presidential Communication Secretary asked by a reporter whether the public could expect it before Duterte’s SONA, Andanar said “Yes" as a response.
Also, Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella replied in a text message to INQUIRER.net when asked about the release of the EO on FOI, “Let’s wait for the Sona” Andanar said.
The FOI bill is one of the promises of President Duterte during his campaign period, something which the former president Benigno Aquino III, failed to do to the public in his six years term before.
